Nux Vomica(Ma qian zi)

It is the dried mature seeds of Stychnos mux-vomica L.,family strychnos.The mature fruit is collected during winter.The seeds are taken out,washed clean,and then dried in the sunshine.It is then stir-baked with sand,boiled with water,or fried with oil.When utilized it should be ground into powder.

Medicinal Properties:Bitter,warm and extremely toxic.

Meridian Tropism:liver and spleen meridians.

Medicinal Efficacies:Open meridians and relieve pain;dissolve swelling and dissipate nodulation.

Usage and Dosage:It can be processed into pills or powder,0.3~0.6g.The appropriate amount is used externally,for which it can be ground into powder for external application,or processed into paste to be applied on the wound.
