Cassia Twig(Gui Zhi)

Guizhi is the dried tender twig of Cinnamomum cassia Presl, pertaining to Luraceae. It is collected in spring and summer. After the leaf is removed, it is cut into slices and then sun dried. The raw form is used.

Medicinal Properties: Pungent, sweet and warm

Meridian Tropism: heart, lung and bladder

Medicinal Efficacies: Induce sweating, release muscles; warm lung, unblock meridians; reinforce yang, promote qi transformation; lower down reverse qi flow.

Usage and Dosage: 3-9g

Precautions: It is pungent and warm to assist warm, tending to damage yin and blood. As a result, for warming diseases, deficiency of yin with exuberance of yang, and accelerated blood circulation due to heat, avoid using it. For woman with pregnancy or excessive menstruation, use it cautiously.
