Baical Skullcap Root(Huang qin)

Huangqin is the dried root of Scutellaria baicalensis Georgi,pertaining to Labiatae.It is collected in spring and fall.After fibrous root,earth and sand are removed,it is sun dried to remove coarse bark.After that it is steamed thoroughly or sunk into boiling water,and the sun dried.The raw form is used or after stir-baked with wine,as well as stir-baked to charcoal.

Medicinal Properties:Bitter and cold.

Meridian Tropism:Lung,gallbladder stomach and large intestine meridians.

Medicinal Efficacies: Clear heat,dry dampness;purge fire;relieve toxicity;stop bleeding and prevent abortion.

Usage and Dosage:3-9g.Also it can be used in power or pills.For clearing heat,the raw form is used,for threatened abortion,it is stir-baked,for clearing heat in the upper energizer,it is wine-baked,and for stopping bleeding,it is stir-baked to charcoal.
