Cough(Ke Sou 咳嗽)
Chinese Name: 咳嗽
English Name: Cough
The cough is a lung system disease mainly characterized by cough and expectoration of phlegm. It is caused by the lung-qi's failing to disperse and descend and impairment or adverse upward flow of the lung-qi from external contraction of six pathogenic factors of dysfunction of the zang-fu organs.
Cough may either occur as an independent problem or a common symptom of many kinds of lung system disease. Cough is called Ke Sou in Chinese. The first word Ke refers to the coughing sound with no expectoration of phlegm. The second word Sou refers to the presence of phlegm without coughing sound. Clinically, the two symptoms are always together.
