Wind Syndrome(风淫证) and its manifestations

Wind Syndrome(风淫证) :

It refers to the syndrome due to contraction of external wind, also called exogenous wind syndrome.

Clinical Manifestations: Aversion to wind, mild fever, sweating, stuffy nose, sneezing, itching and pain in the throat, cough, thin white tongue coating, floating and moderate pulse, or sudden itching of the skin, even papula and rashes, or sudden facial numbness, facial distortion, even stiff neck, spasm, opisthotonos, or wandering pain in joints, or sudden swollen face and limbs.

Syndrome Analysis: The exterior is attacked by wind so the textual interstitial spaces of the muscles has a disorder in opening and closing, thus the patient has an aversion to wind and a mild fever, and there is sweating, thin and white tongue coating, floating and slow pulse. If wind invade the lung and violates the lung systems, there will be stuffy nose, sneezing, itching and pain in the throat and cough. if wind resides in the skin and muscles, there will be a sudden itching in the skin, papula or rashes, ectc. If wind attacks the channels and collaterals, impeding the circulation of channel qi, in a mild case, there will be facial numbness, and facial distortion, while in a severe case, there may occur stiff neck, spasm, and opisthotonos. If wind, cold and dampness block the channels, collaterals and joints, there will be a wandering pain in limbs and joints. If there is a confrontation between wind and water which causes dysfucntion of dispersing and descending of lung qi, there will be edema in the face and limbs.
