Coix Seed(Yi yi ren)

It is the dried seed of Coix lacryma-jobi L.var.ma-yuen(Roman.)Stapf,family Gramineae.It is collected when the fruit is ripe.The plant is cut,dried in the sunshine,and then the filemot seed capsule is peeled off.The raw or the stir-baked form is utilized as a medicine.

Medicinal Properties:Sweet,bland in and cool.

Meridian Tropism:Spleen ,stomach and lung meridians.

Medicinal Efficacies:Promote diuresis to drain dampness;invigorate the spleen to relieve diarrhea;treat Bi-syndrome;clear away heat to drain the pus.

Usage and Dosage: 9~30g.It is taken orally.It should be taken in a large dosage for a long time period due to its mild efficacy.The stir-baked form is utilized for invigorating the spleen,while the raw form is utilized for other syndromes.In addition,it is an excellent medicinal for dietotherapy,and it can be made into a custard,soup,or cooked as porridge with rice.
