Chaihu is the dried root of Bupleurum chinense DC.or Bupleurum scorzonerifolium Willd.,pertaining to Umbelliferae.According to the difference in property and physical shape,it is classified into "North Chaihu" and "South Chaihu".It is collected in spring and fall.Afert the stem,leaf,earth and sands are removed,it is dried and then cut into segments.The raw form is used or after fried with vinegar.

Medicinal Properties:Bitter and slightly cold.

Meridian Tropism:Bladder, liver and gallbladder meridians.

Medicinal Efficacies: Harmonize the exterior and interior;soothe liver,relieve depression;raise yang qi.

Usage and Dosage: 3-9g. It is fried with vinegar to soothe liver and relieve depression.The raw form or after fried with wine can raise yang qi.
