Shengjiang is the fresh rhizome of Zingiber officnale Rosc., pertaining to Zingiberaceae. It is collected in fall and winter. After the fibrous root, earth and sands are removed, it is cut into thin slices. The raw form is used.
Medicinal Properties: Pungent and warm
Meridian Tropism: lung, spleen and stomach meridians
Medicinal Efficacies: Dispel cold, release superficies; warm the middle, arrest vomitting; resolve phlegm and stop cough.
Usage and Dosage: 3-9g
Precautions: It is pungent and warm. So, avoid with exuberant heat, or yin deficiency with internal heat.
